Dec/Jan NaNoWriMo 2014/15 Day 21: Outline and Story Structure Part 6

Hey guys! I had a great writing session today. I composed 2, 249 words! Here are my stats for day 21:

Word Count Goal: 38,341

Words Written: 41,671

So I crossed the 40,000 word threshold. Less than 10,000 away from my goal of 50,000 words. My novel will definitely exceed that word count.

For the past five days, I have been writing about the 3 Act, 9 Block, 27 Chapter Story Structure Outline. You can view the previous posts here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4 and Part 5.

Today, we are gonna break down the final block of Act 2. Now these three story points, the Reaction, Action and Dedication, can be combined but I will briefly break them down.

Reaction: This section is self explanatory. The hero reflects upon what happened during the Midpoint. Things have changed now and they have to come to terms with that.

Action: Armed with this new information, the hero takes matters into his own hand and decides to be in control of his or her own destiny. In Star Wars, this is when Luke decides to disobey Obi-Wan’s orders to stay put and saves Princess Leia instead.

Dedication: Nothing is going to stop your hero from succeeding. Whether it’s an entire chapter or a small scene, show that the hero is now dedicated to their journey.

And that’s it for Act 2. Tomorrow we will explore the first block of Act 3. Things are about to get very interesting.

Until next time, kill your darlings, slay your dragons and keep writing.
