Top Five Wednesday: Series I Want to Start This Year

Hey everyone! It’s Wednesday and that means that it’s time for another Top Five Wednesday post. This week, I am going to talk about series that I want to start reading this year:

5. The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan

I am a huge fan of Rick Riordan. I absolutely love both the Percy Jackson and the Olympians and The Heroes of Olympus series. Between those series, Riordan wrote The Kane Chronicles, which is a trilogy that revolves around Egyptian mythology. The three books in the series–The Red Pyramid, The Throne of Fire, The Serpent’s Shadow–follow Sadie and Carter Kane, siblings who are forced to save their father from opposing forces. Even though I do not know much about Egyptian Mythology, I am super excited to read this series. Riordan is the master at writing books that are equally funny, intense and thrilling. This series has been out for a while now and I am hoping to finish it before Magnus Kane comes out in October.

4. The 5th Wave Trilogy by Rick Yancy

Okay, so I love aliens. I mean really LOVE aliens. One of my favorite movies of all time is E.T. I am obsessed with Star Wars, Super 8 and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. So when I heard that there was a new Young Adult series about aliens, I was all on board. Only two books in this series of been released, The 5th Wave and The Infinite Sea. The third book is scheduled for release later in the year. There aren’t enough books out there about aliens, so I am excited to read it.

3. The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

I know, I know. This series has been out for a while but I was always hesitant to read it. I’ve heard a lot of things about Cassandra Clare. There have been plagiarism claims against her as well as bullying allegations which made me take pause before starting the series. I’m not really into the whole demons and angels thing, but I feel, as a fantasy writer, I should give this series a try. People seem to really love it.

2. The Darkest Minds Trilogy by Alexandra Bracken

Super powered teenagers. I don’t need to know anything else about the series. All I know is that I am interested. I purchased the first book a few months ago and I am excited to marathon the whole trilogy which includes The Darkest Minds, Never Fade and In the Afterlife.

1. The Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas

Okay, so if there is one series I am eager to begin, it is the Throne of Glass series. A cross between A Song of Ice and Fire and The Hunger Games, Throne of Glass tells the story of an assassin named Celaena Sardothien. There are four books out, the prequel The Assassin’s Blade, Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight and Heir of Fire. With three more books set for release, this series is expected to be huge in the future. I will probably start this one very soon.

  1. I saw your post on the Top 5 goodreads group, and I am also really looking forward to reading the Throne of Glass series. It sounds really awesome. I also think I might pick up the Kane Chronicles after I finish the Heroes of Olympus series.
