Dec/Jan NaNoWriMo 2014/15 Day 24: Outline and Story Structure Part 9

Hey guys! So today, I wrote 1,224 words. I didn’t quite reach my daily goal, but I am still ahead of the main word count goal and that’s what really matters. Here are my stats:

Word Count Goal: 43,342

Words Written: 46, 251

Today, I will break down the final block of Act 3 of the 3 Act, 9 Block, 27 Chapter Story Structure Outline. You can see the previous eight parts here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7 and Part 8.

The final three plot points are Battle, Climax and Resolution.

Battle: This is where the hero fights the villain. Harry goes toe to toe with Voldemort. Katniss, Peeta and Cato fight atop the Cornucopia. No matter who or what your antagonist is, this is the moment where there is a conflict between good and evil.

Climax: This is the most tension filled moment in the story. Everything you have written before, every plot point you have constructed leads to this moment. Your hero either triumphs over evil or they succumb to a fatal flaw.

Resolution: This plot point is self explanatory. Tie up all the loose ends. Make sure that your hero has changed after his or her long and challenging journey. Your story isn’t worth anything if your hero hasn’t grown or changed in someway.

And that’s it folks! I hope this series of blog posts has helped you craft your story. You don’t have to follow the outline exactly, but if it gives you some direction, then that’s great. You can learn more about this story structure at Katytastic’s Youtube page. You guys should subscribe to her channel.

Tomorrow I go back to school, so my updates might be a little later than usual, but I will definitely try to write everyday.

Until then kill your darlings, slay your dragons and keep writing!
