Music is one of the most important aspects of my entire writing process. That is why I wanted to create a weekly series that will spotlight a song from my current writing playlist.
This week, the song is “Blue Bayou” by Linda Ronstadt.
I’m a fan of the classics. I was practically raised on them. So when I heard this gem revived by Alyson Porter on The Voice, I had to give the original a listen. Linda’s angelic, yet powerful voice perfectly captures the sadness of abandoning those you love, of longing for that one place that makes you happy.
My main character is in a very tough spot. She is toiling away, working hard so she can find her own “Blue Bayou.” When things are rough and she doesn’t know how to cope, she turns to this song and it gives her that little bit of hope that she needs. Sometimes that’s all we need. A little hope.
If you have heard this song before, I would like to hear your opinion of it. If you haven’t give it a listen and leave a comment below. Until next time, kill your darlings, slay your dragons and keep writing.
