When it comes to music, I always loved classic rock from the 60-80’s. There’s just something about the songwriting of those decades that speaks to me. The emotion behind the music was always so raw, when I create playlists for my stories, they tend to be filled with tons of classic rock tunes.
One of my absolute favorite songs of all time is “Blue Bayou” by Linda Ronstadt. Released in 1977, Ronstadt’s cover of this classic tune is timeless. “Blue Bayou” has been a staple on my novel playlist due primarily to the wistful lyrics. Ronstadt sings from the point of view of a lonely woman who works day in and day out to be reunited with her love and Blue Bayou, the only place in the world that makes her happy. This sentiment echoes the feelings of my protagonist in many ways. She is melancholic about her life and longs for something better, her very own “Blue Bayou.”
Check out this wonderful song below as well as my first Tunes Tuesday post which highlight a Taylor Swift track.
Until next time, kill your darlings, slay your dragons, and keep writing.
