As you know, I am in the midst of writing ACT 1 of my novel. My female protagonist goes through many emotions. Her main struggle is to find herself, is to grow more independent from the other forces in her life. However, despite this need for independence, my protagonist has the habit of attaching herself to others and loving them fiercely, even if that love is not returned. She is extremely loyal sacrificing her own happiness for others.

While trying to desperately maintain the affection of her boyfriend, she meets the male protagonist who will act as her mentor and companion. Before long, she falls in love with him. The song “Not Losing You” is all about a woman who assures her lover that no matter what, she will be with him. The lyrics reflect her understanding that the path she is on is a hard one, but she will continue to love despite the odds. The song also talks about her lover’s insecurities.

During the process of outlining and developing my novel, I have often returned to this song. It has helped inspire the dynamic between my two leads.
