Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great week. Although I did not do daily updates this week for my blog due to extenuating circumstances, I did manage to complete chapter 11. There are only two more chapters until I reach the end of Act 1! Seriously, I cannot wait. The story is really starting to take off now that my two point of view characters have finally met their banter and connection has revitalized my love and inspiration for my novel. I am looking forward to writing their interactions in chapters 12 and 13.
To challenge myself even more, I decided to write Six Word Stories. This art form, made famous by Ernest Hemingway, demands that the writer tell a full, emotionally relevant story–with a beginning, middle, and end–in just six words. While none of my attempts have been as heartbreakingly powerful as Hemingway’s classic: “For sale–baby shoes, never worn,” I am proud with what I managed to compose. I posted my early drafts on Scribophile and plan to revise some of them later today. My intent is to get them published while I continue working on my third draft. One of my writing goals for the year was to get another publishing credit and judging by how long it is taking me to complete draft three, it will be a while before I can spend substantial time on a short story. So writing six-word stories, revising poems I have already written and sending them out for publication, will hopefully push me closer to my goal.
I hope you have all made significant progress on your writing projects. I do not want to send a firm deadline, but I would like to have Act 1 finished by early May. I see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m almost there! **Cue Princess Tiana**
Until next time, kill your darlings, slay your dragons, and keep writing.
